Taking into account the emergency situation in Latvia due to the spread of the disease Covid-19 caused by the coronavirus, LTRK is actively taking part in discussions with the government regarding the necessary solutions for stabilising the economy and supporting companies.

The largest association of Latvian entrepreneurs — the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK) —, having reviewed the Draft Law on the threat to the State and measures of preventing and overcoming its consequences due to the spread of Covid-19, conceptually supports the adoption of this law, however, to ensure that a maximum number of companies survive this crisis by retaining jobs, employing the population and paying taxes, LTRK voices the following objections to the Draft Law:

The Latvian entrepreneurs’ association — the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (hereinafter — LTRK) — welcomes the fact that the government has listened to the entrepreneurs, and, at the special session, the Cabinet of Ministers decided on the regulations on support measures for employers affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

The Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry urges all members, who require a consultation about state support mechanisms to overcome Covid-19 crisis, to get in touch with LTRK by writing to the e-mail address 

The Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry issues Force Majeure Certificates. 

Force majeure definition: extraordinary inevitable circumstances, due to which contractual commitments cannot be performed resulting in losses inflicted by one party to the other. In legal practice, the concept of force majeure is not strictly defined, and can include: wars, revolutions, strikes, earthquakes etc.

Regarding the issue of force majeure statements:

In the nearest future, the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK) to submit to the government an economic recovery plan to overcome the crisis caused by COVID-19.  It is important that Latvian companies can continue working so that people can retain income and jobs, and, as the pandemic ends, the economy can resume at full speed. Furthermore, it is important to continue hearing out expert epidemiologist opinions if we do not wish to live through other countries’ unfortunate experiences in Latvia.

At the beginning of May, the European Commission is due to adopt the updated Skills Agenda, which is to offer a solution to the current and future labour market challenges. The co-chairs of the EUROCHAMBRES Skills and Entrepreneurship Committee Aigars Rostovskis and Martha Schultz discussed the most pressing matters in this regard.

The president of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Aigars Rostovskis has assumed the post of a co-chair of the Skills and Entrepreneurship Committee of the largest European business association that unites 20 million companies — EUROCHAMBRES.

EUROCHAMBRES has a total of five committees, which are tasked with working towards the development of areas essential for business, including the common market, small and medium enterprises, European sustainability, etc. The Austrian representative Martha Schultz is the other co-chair of the Skills and Entrepreneurship Committee.
